The total length of the canals managed by this office extends over 3,000 km, with vacant land along the canal banks often overgrown with weeds, leading to blockages and making maintenance difficult. To address this, wider sections of the canal banks are opened up for farmers to plant crops during the off-season. This arrangement allows farmers to assist with weed control and maintenance. In addition, the office has identified suitable locations along the canal banks for planting daylilies and lemongrass, which not only reduces weeding costs but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings.
- Crops that require support structures or vine plants that could spread into the canal or waterway areas are not permitted for planting along the canal banks.
- Applicants are responsible for maintaining water flow and cleanliness in the adjacent canal sections.
- A patrol passage along the canal must be maintained. During maintenance or improvement work on the canals conducted by this office, the applicant must unconditionally remove any crops planted in the area, without requesting compensation.
- Weeds or plant debris must not be discarded into the canal, as this could cause blockages or sediment accumulation. Farmers with adjacent vacant land along canal banks may apply for the planting program at their respective district workstations.
