The Huangdeji Canal Check Gate is a historic structure with significant cultural heritage. It serves as the main irrigation canal for the rice paddies in Yuguang Village, with its water source originating from Longtan Lake. The intake is located near Yuguang Village (Land Plot No. 304). The original check gate structure (two gates, each 1.4m x 1.8m) was used for irrigation but became inadequate in recent years due to abnormal climate changes, unable to meet drainage needs.
In response, and in line with the Dezikou River Basin Management Plan, this office secured central government subsidies, with additional support from the Yilan County Government, Jiaoxi Township Office, and local legislators for land acquisition. The old gate was successfully replaced with a dual automatic tilting weir system, each with a 7-meter-wide gate, and dual intake gates, each 2 meters wide. The surrounding roads were also widened. These improvements not only address the inadequate flood discharge cross-section of the old gate but are expected to protect the farmland in the area from flooding during typhoons and heavy rains. In addition, the upgraded infrastructure improves road safety and convenience for local residents.
